We set up our membership scheme in 2009 in order to give recognition to our registered service users as key stakeholders and empowering them to have a greater say in the running of the Charity and opportunities as user representatives on a Members Forum and being nominated as a Charity Trustee.

To be eligible for applying for membership you will normally need to be at least 60 years old or more, a Camden borough resident, on low income and accept our self-help principles. To apply you will need to contact us by phone or email or pop into the Centre in Cumberland Market to pick up a membership application form. We are happy to help you complete the application form and answer any questions you may have about joining. TAP Membership is for 12 months, renewable and there is a small fee of £15 payable

Volunteer with us

We have a strong self-help ethos with volunteers active in many key roles. Indeed, in our new 5 Ways to Wellbeing Programme puts “Giving” as one of the five different ways that older people can improve their wellbeing. Although, a majority of our volunteers have been recruited from within our membership we are happy to consider others that may have a contribution to make and want to support us and in helping us deliver our services, activities and community events. In the first instance please phone or email us to find out more about what’s involved and to ask for an informal interview.

If subsequently you are invited to apply to become one of our volunteers you will need to complete an application form, provide two independent referees and most probably DBS checked as part of our Safeguarding policy and procedure. Every volunteer has a named supervisor who will provide a warm welcome and ongoing support. We have a Member Forum that meets regularly with the Manager and a Trustee as Chair to coordinate and support volunteers and provides feedback on future priorities and volunteering opportunities.

Become a trustee

TAP’s trustees provide governance and steer to our charity. If you are interested in joining the board, we want to hear from you. Contact info@thirdageproject.org.uk for more information.

Fundraising activities

Are you thinking of fundraising for a charity and feel passionately towards our cause? Whether you’re running a marathon or having a bake sale, your efforts are appreciated. Please get in touch and we’ll help you setup your JustGiving or VirginMoney page so that your proceeds can directly reach the Third Age Project.

Volunteering Opportunities at the Third Age Project

At the Third Age Project (TAP), our mission is to improve the quality of life of older people by reducing isolation, promoting active living, and building stronger, connected communities. Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do — they bring energy, kindness, and creativity that help make our centre a welcoming space for everyone.
Whether you can give a few hours a week or just help occasionally, your time and skills can make a lasting difference.

Trips & Events Volunteer

TAP offers a variety of trips and social events throughout the year, helping older people explore new places and enjoy new experiences. As a Trips & Events Volunteer, you’ll help plan, lead, and support these outings, ensuring everyone feels safe, included, and engaged. It’s a fantastic way to build relationships and create special memories for our members. Training will be provided.

Creative Arts Volunteer

If you have a passion for creativity, this is your chance to share it! As a Creative Arts Volunteer, you’ll use your artistic skills — from drawing and painting to knitting, crochet, or crafts — to inspire older people to express themselves and discover new talents. You’ll assist in running workshops at our centre and in the wider community, promoting confidence, wellbeing, and fun through creativity.

Gardening Volunteer – The Friendship Garden

Help us keep our outdoor spaces vibrant and welcoming. Gardening Volunteers care for our plants, support group gardening sessions, and help create a relaxing environment where older people can connect with nature and one another. From watering, raking of autumnal leaves, pruning, or litter picking, you don’t need to be an expert — just enjoy being outdoors and getting your hands dirty for a good cause!

Community Engagement Volunteer

Are you a people person who enjoys making connections? As a Community Engagement Volunteer, you’ll help promote TAP’s activities, build relationships with local supporters, and raise awareness of our work. This flexible role is perfect for those who want to contribute but can’t commit to regular hours. You’ll represent TAP at community events, support local partnerships, and help us reach more older people who could benefit from our programmes.

Social Media Volunteer

Help us tell our story! Our Social Media Volunteers play a vital role in sharing TAP’s impact online — from celebrating our members’ achievements to promoting upcoming events. If you’re confident with social media and enjoy creating engaging content, this is a great opportunity to gain experience in digital communications while supporting a charity that makes a difference in the community.

Join Our Team of Volunteers
